June 2025: I enjoyed taking photos for several days in Prague, in the Czech Republic. It is quite the European Tourist destination. I went on a weekend trip from Berlin with my wife and her university students. I've never seen so many 500-plus-year-old buildings in my 73 years.
I had the opportunity to test the photo and video capabilities of my $500 Google Pixel 9a #GooglePixel9A. It was a fine camera for this type of family or solo vacation photography. If I were on an assignment? I would've taken a professional mirrorless camera. OBVIOUSLY!
You and I would have taken one of these amazing cameras. Anything from a (we are in June 2025) Nikon Z8, Lumix S1RII or Sony Alpha 7R V. Most high-megapixel cameras would have done a fantastic job in the right hands. Of course, you need to carry several professional lenses. OF COURSE? For this trip to Europe, I decided on my Pixel phone for typical familial vacation pics.
FYI: You could readily print good-quality 8x10-inch prints from this camera phone. They would be indistinguishable from pro cameras. Except the photos would be typically wide-angle (this camera), have an average consumer-level dynamic range, very poor low-light performance, and no aperture control. In the end, you end up with poor bokeh and no focus control. That's just to start! For home or office travel tabletop or hallway pics, this camera would be great!
